MOBAC Reports (as necessary): Admin Council (May 7, 2020):
- Cabrillo College: library director position is being eliminated; summer session to be held all online; working on drive-up returns for objects (cameras, calculators, etc.)
- Monterey County Free Libraries: trying to restart Book-by-Mail program and setup a delivery system between the larger branches
- Monterey Public Library: facing significant budget cuts and layoffs; reconsidering essential library services from the ground up; planning on starting curbside; looking at self-checkout app Capira
- MIIS: summer and probably fall sessions online; not focusing on reopening yet; minimal staff in building providing minimal services; Vermont campus working on reopening plan
- Hartnell: summer session online; library and campus closed summer and beginning of fall; working on materials returns and curbside pickup, plus checking out hotspots; open positions frozen
- Salinas Public Library: city facing large budget shortfall, library hoping to avoid layoffs by freezing open positions; working on reopening and curbside plan; expanding virtual programming in partnership with local organizations
- Naval Postgraduate School: spring and summer sessions online, working on hybrid model for fall; library closed, minimal staff onsite; working on curbside pickup; student need for study spaces and printing access
New Business: PLP has put out a call for funding. Do we want to:
- Push our web accessibility workshop to the fall and ask for our funds to be rolled over
- Push our web accessibility workshop to the fall but hold it virtually, meaning we may not need any funds
- Put a hold on workshops until 2021 since staff are struggling right now with uncertainty and remote work
After discussion, the committee decided to table our workshop until the next round of funding opens in the fall and take stock of our capacity; whether or not we can hold in-person events; and what obstacles exist to making the workshop itself accessible.
