Approval of Jan. 25, 2011 Minutes – Approved
Reports
Administrative Council: Janie: Admin Council – PLP has tentatively approved the higher fee schedule. There will be a “phase in” process implementing the fee increases. There will be some revisions to the fees as many libraries have had their budgets reduced. The MOBAC reserve fund will be used to pay the difference between the new increase and old fee during the next year for member libraries.
Technology Task Force
The committee recommended using Mega Meeting. PLP will provide web cam, mike, and headset for the software. Contact: Wendy Cao at: caow@plsinfo.org for these items.
MOBAC Website
The website will be migrating to Word Press. Steve @ CSUMB will help in this process. Probably will keep Wiki or it will be folded in. Heather said she would help with the implementation, also. Bjorn wondered when the migration would take place. Maybe in March?
Strategic Plan – Dates changed to June 2012 for other strategic plan outcomes.
Technology Committee: Dana reported that they held a workshop on “mobilizing your library.” They are looking for ideas for their next workshop. Hartnell has used information on applications (“skins”) to optimize web pages on mobile phones. There are “skins” for Gale databases as well.
ILL Committee: Jean and Pamela reported that the group is trying to set up a workshop for upcoming changes to ILL. Topics would include changes to ILL because of the increase in electronic databases and electronic books.
SPLAMBA: Four people attended the last SPLAMBA meeting. Mary said they will be having a tween workshop. It will be on April 15, 2011 at Watsonville Public Library. There will be a joint meeting between SPLAMBA and Reference on May 17, 2011 in the morning. The topic will be sharing databases that would be useful for students and teachers as well as promoting the use of electronic resources.
Old Business
Thank you Janie for emailing the MOBAC Reference committee members the links for two of the presenters at the previous e-book workshop.
The upcoming Screen Capture Workshop, featuring Jing (free software) and Camtasia, will be held at CSUMB from 9-12 PM on March 25, 2011. Sign in will begin at 8:30 AM. Thank you in advance, Laura for volunteering to bring refreshments from Gayles. Andrea Davis, from NPS, will demo Jing and Jeff McCall of CSUMB will demo Camtasia. The tentative schedule will have the main presentation at 9-10 AM. From 10:15 AM – 11 AM people can discuss their “tips and tricks.” The “hands on” portion will be from 11 AM- noon. Workshop participants are urged to bring a topic to create their own screen cast from the software. People can work individually or in groups.
New Business
Changes to the wiki. Some discussion about editing a page and the difference between a page and a file. Heather will fill in meeting dates for the rest of 2011 and members should sign up for available days.
