Adoption of March 2010 Meeting Minutes

Reports
Admin: Admin committee received the Ref committee “focus” (“Future Libraries”) enthusiastically and approved our budget. re the issue over loss of Gale’s content, Mary reported a figure given her by Gales at “3%” total titles, so no action was taken by Admin.  Discussion followed (among the Ref group)  over concern that the number of titles isn’t the whole story: the significance of the titles lost is where the problem is.  More content to be lost after Jan. 2011, so information gathered about this issue won’t be strictly true after that point.  Some voiced a prediction that this issue will cause libraries to hesitate over signing with Gale’s in future.  MOBAC fees: Fees will remain the same for the next fiscal year.  Strategic Plan will be presented on May 14.  There is a new company proposed for MOBAC delivery, called NCM Direct.

Tech Committee: The recent workshop on “Cloud Computing” was very successful.  Next workshop looks very promising, too: on Video.

SPLAMBA: none

ILL: the recent Hands-On workshop on shared resources, held at NPS was also well-received.  Comments from the group: with so many libraries considering a change to their ILS, this seems like a key moment to capitalize on resource sharing.  Kudos to the ILL group for a very timely, useful workshop.

Old Business

New Business

We have been asked to choose how to spend PLP money/LISTA grant by 6/30.  The following are some suggestions.

Altarama chat refernce

Gale Career Database

Innovative’s Boot Camp

Infopeople Workshops: can we ask for something specific?  Suggestions: a presentation on the shared service-desk model would be useful, or classes for the public on computer tasks as specific as “How to Post to Craigslist”.

Springshare’s LibGuides, a resource useful for developing subject-specific library webpages on any subject, big or small: operates by allowing content to be shared between libraries.  A big topic at the recent CARL conference, with lots of PL potential, too.

Meetings in future:

May: CSUMB
June: Castrovillle
July – no meeting.
August: Phil’s Fish Market restaurant in Moss Landing
September: No meeting because we will be having the Hands-On workshop October 1
October: ?
November: ?
December – no meeting.

Ref committee members are asked to go to the wiki and fill in future locations still lacking.

Discussion followed about the October workshop.  Specific date to be announced.  If we want to use MPC again we should come to the next meeting prepared to talk about specific dates.  Workshop times discussed: concern about competition with Directors’ meeting.  IMPORTANT: make sure Hands-On announcements go out to ALL COMMITTEES.

Webmaster duties: Irene has indicated a wish to pass on this responsibility after June 1.  Jean mentioned hearing something at Admin Council about a change to the way the MOBAC site may be maintained in future, but details are lacking.  Will be on next month’s agenda.

The group acknowledged the advantage of having a computer and connection for meetings, in general.

—–following this was a discussion of individual library business.
