Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month

2015/16 Co-Chairs: Glenn Tozier (MPC), Kristen Cardoso (MIIS)

December 2, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00
Monterey Peninsula College Library

MINUTES

Attending: Glenn Tozier (MPC), Deborah Stephens (Hartnell), Kristen Cardoso (MIIS), Steve Watkins (CSUMB), Stacy DeMatteo (NPS), Chris Ricker (MCFL), Stephanie Staley (Cabrillo)

1. Today’s recorder: Steve Watkins

2. Agenda review: added item on hosting services for MOBAC videos

3. Approve minutes from last meeting: Minutes of the September 16, 2015 meeting were approved as submitted. Minutes of the August 12, 2015 meeting are still pending.

4. Admin Council report:
The Technology Committee’s annual report was submitted, discussed and approved. Admin Council members provided feedback on workshop ideas from the report and suggested a Zoom virtual meeting training session with hands-on participation at multiple locations. The Admin Council and SPLAMBA were especially interested in opportunities to familiarize themselves with Zoom for virtual participation in future meetings.

PLP has grant opportunities available, particularly for public library members.

Next Admin Council meeting is December 11, 2015; Kristen and Glenn will represent the Technology Committee.

5. MOBAC Regional Catalog survey:
Stacy arranged for a followup email to be sent via Admin Council to encourage additional submissions. Steve will check the updated results and will distribute them to the committee. The Reference Committee expressed support for an alternative to the FirstSearch regional catalog.

6. Annual report: accepted by Admin Council as described above.

7. Hosting services for MOBAC videos:
Steve reported that copies of the archived videorecordings that were stored on a streaming video server at the CSU Chancellor’s Office have been made and are available for loading on a new hosting service. Stephanie and Deborah volunteered to look into YouTube as a possible hosting service which, if feasible, would also provide usage statistics. For ongoing videorecording of programs, issues still need to be resolved regarding who does the processing, compressing and uploading.

8. Workshops/trainings:
Given the interest from Admin Council, the committee decided to prepare a Zoom workshop/training session first, possibly followed by a workshop on library website content later in the spring. Ideas for the Zoom workshop(s) included:
~ general orientation followed by breakout sessions for hands-on practice
~ try a set of virtual meetings first, schedule in-person workshop only if needed
~ participants would need to download and install Zoom plugins or apps locally prior to the workshop
~ Tech Committee would prepare brief instructions and links to Zoom tutorials
~ to provide some content for the virtual meeting, participants would be asked to share one interesting use of technology
~ possibly schedule for early February 2016, consider two one-hour virtual meetings to maximize opportunities to participate
~ offer to attend other group meetings to demo Zoom and answer questions

9. New business: none

10. Public comment: none
